Alternative Certification Pathway
The Charter Inspire Alternative Certification Pathway offers a unique opportunity for aspiring educators to achieve their certification through a comprehensive and rigorous 14-month program. Designed to meet both the educational community’s needs and those of individual participants, our program is structured around well-defined components and robust support systems.

Experience a structured 14-month journey designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to excel in the classroom.

Cost and Support
The total cost of participation is $1,200, which covers:
- An assigned coach for 14 months.
- Resources including books, school visits, and necessary supplies. This fee can be deducted from paychecks over the 14-month period. Limited financial assistance may be available for those in need.
Eligibility Criteria
For a candidate to be eligible for the Charter Inspire Alternative Certification Pathway, once hired by the charter school, they must have the following:
- An earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university or an approved South Carolina institution with a teacher education program. A transcript will be required to assist in identifying an academic major or major equivalence for appropriate targeted certification areas.
- A transcript identifying the completion of a major in an anticipated certification field/subject (see below) or a major equivalence in the certification subject area as defined by the South Carolina State Board of Education.
- A passing score on all Praxis Content Area Assessments for all certification fields as defined by the South Carolina Board of Education.
- For a major equivalence with anticipated certification fields specifically in Special Education (Multi- Categorical), Early Childhood or Elementary Education, our pathway will follow state precedence as follows: the candidate must have a 2.75 GPA or a 2.5 GPA and a qualifying/passing score on the Reading/Writing/Math sections of the Praxis Core Exam. For all other content certification areas, including Spanish -transcripts must show at least 18 hours in the identified content area.
- Specifically, for certification fields of Science (Middle Level Science, Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.), candidate coursework will be evaluated for:
- A major in the specific area of the certification field (i.e., biology major may be admitted to a biology certification program);
- At least 18 semester hours in science strands (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, etc.); and/or
- Minimum grade of a C or better per course in the initial science major
- An application for a South Carolina teacher license through the state portal, including fingerprints, background check and application fees.
