Columbia, S.C. β The South Carolina Public Charter School District (PCSD) Board of Trustees voted today to approve the transfer of multiple Limestone Charter Association (LCA) schools into the PCSD, ensuring uninterrupted operations for schools in good standing following the announced closure of Limestone College and the Limestone Charter Association.
Over the past several months, PCSD worked closely with the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver to create a clear, expedited pathway for qualifying LCA schools to remain open and continue serving students. This collaboration ensured that high-performing public charter schools would not face closure.
βOur priority has always been the students and families who depend on these schools,β said Cyndi Mosteller, Chair of the PCSD Board of Trustees. βWe are grateful for the leadership of Superintendent Ellen Weaver and the support of the Department of Education. Todayβs decision reflects our unwavering commitment to stability, accountability, and opportunity for every child in South Carolina.β
Fourteen schools met PCSD transfer criteria following a comprehensive review of academic performance, financial audits, governance documentation, and completion of the application process. Approved for transfer include schools rated on the 2025 SC School Report Cards as Excellent, Good or Average.
βThis has been a difficult and stressful period for these school communities, and we are glad to offer a solution to a very challenging set of circumstances,β said Chris G. Neeley, Superintendent of the South Carolina Public Charter School District. βWe are honored to welcome them into the PCSD family. Trust is earned over time, and our team is committed to walking with them through this transition with clarity, steady support, and a shared commitment to putting Kids First.β
PCSD will now begin the onboarding and charter contract process with each newly approved school to ensure operational continuity beginning January 2026.
